Basically it is 13 day trek which includes 2 days of airport pick up and drop off. The trail is relatively easier one as you will not have to tackle with high altitude and difficult terrain. During your trek you get to know the cultural and social life style, norms and values of the people living in this region. The panoramic view of Annapurna I-IV, Dhaulagiri, Nilgiri are some of the talking point of the Jomsom Muktinath Trek.

 

Overview of Jomsom Muktinath Trek

Jomsom and Muktinath trek is one of those trek which gives you thrill, excitement and considerable amount of knowledge about Buddhism and Hinduism and their ancient myths associated with the lives of people living in that region. Muktinath is sacred for both Hindus and Buddhists. Muktinath is a valley located at an altitude of 3710m. Religiously Muktinath is believed to be the place of Nirvana and Salvation. The word “Mukti” means attaining enlightment and the word “Nath” means place. Literally it can be called a place where one attains salvation or gets enlightened. Muktinath is highly revered by one of the main branches of Hinduism “The Vaishnavs” whose supreme God is Vishnu. In fact there are many myths and legends associated with this sacred Place. Muktinath is also one of the main “Shakti Peetha” of Hindus.

Buddhitsts call it “Chumig Gyatsa” which means Hundred waters as translated word by word. The main shrine of the temple is considered the most holy by both Hindus and Buddhists. According to Buddhists mythology Guru Rinpoche also known as Padhmasambhava while on his way to Tibet had meditated in Muktinath. It has 108 natural water springs within the vicinity of the central temple. You can see a lot of people taking holy bath under the 108 holy taps which has 24 hours supply of water.

Jomsom is located just about 1000 metre below Muktinath in Mustang district of Dhaulagiri zone. Jomsom is a deep valley surrounded by mighty mountain ranges of Annapurna and Dhaulagiri. This region is the perfect example of the diversity in all its aspect. The trekking trail goes through the lower regions of Mustang. On your trial you can see plenty of Chortens and monasteries with tide all over them. The trail offers the scenery of subtropical forest with Rhododendrons commonly found to the rocky cliffs and desert like places with alpine climatic condition. Just within a short length of trail you can see the drastic change in the climate and surroundings.

Jomsom and Muktinath trek is categorized as an easy one. The average walking time per day is in between 5-6 hours. This entire trip includes both surface and aerial form of transportation and would require 13days to complete it. For those who are interested in philosophy would be glad to learn about the Buddhists and Hindus myths and the philosophy it offers.

Jomsom Muktinath Trek comprises the varied trekking experience in the shortest possible time.  The trek traverses from the deepest river vallegy gorge in the world and climbs upto the height of 3800m. These regions fall in the rain shadow region and often are called the desert mountain of Nepal.

Muktinath is a very sacred place for Hindu and Buddhist pilgrimages. You can witness the mix of culture, religion, tradition with picturesque beauty of nature. The natural hot spring of Muktinath is another attraction in which there’s a popular belief that bathing in it will get rid of one’s sins and diseases.  After climbing onto  Muktinath,  you head down to the dry valley of Jomsom  which is a gateway to the sacred kingdom of Mustang. You can experience the blend of Tibetan and other ethnic group culture.
We hike up to Kagbeni via Ghasa and then to Muktinath. From Muktinath, we head down to Jomsom and conclude our trek by an awesome flight back to Pokhara and a drive back to Kathmandu.

Day 01 arrival in Kathmandu International airport

You will be picked up from the airport and will be dropped off in one of the deluxe hotel in Kathmandu. You will be free to spend the evening on your own.

Day 02 Kathmandu Sightseeing

After having a breakfast you will be picked up from the hotel for full day sightseeing. The likely places you will be visiting are Pahupatinath, Swyambhu and Kathmandu Durbar square. You will be accompanied by government license holder city tour guide for whole day. Your tour guide will give ample informations about the places you will be visiting. After the city tour is over you will be dropped back in a hotel to spend the night.

Day 3 Fly to Pokhara(850m) drive toNayapool(1070m) and trek to Tikhedhunge(1552m)

You will be taking an early flight from Kathmandu enjoying the panoramic view of mountains from within the comforts of an aircraft. After you land in Pokhara you will have to drive to Nayapool which normally takes 2 hours from Pokhara. You will start your trek from Nayapool towards Bhurundi khola and then ascend through lush green sub tropical forest going through suspension bridge on couple of occasions before reaching tikhedhunge. Overnight at lodge.

Day 04 Tikhedhunge to Ghorepani(2800m)

At the beginning of the day your trial will be downhill until you reach Burundi khola. After you cross the river your trial begins to ascend to Ulleri and finally you will reach Ghorepani. It will take you for 6-7 hours to reach there. Upon your arrival you will be taken to a nice little lodge to spend the night.

Day 05 Ghorepani to Tatopani(1190m)

Today after your breakfast you start descending towards Sikha village and again continue descending Ghar Khola village. Once you cross the suspension bridge your trial begins with an uphill climb all the way to Tatopani where you will be spending the night in a lodge.

Day 06 Tatopani to Ghasa(2110m)

On your day 6 you will be trekking along the bank of kali Gandaki river. On your way you can see a beautiful waterfall while going through the valley of Kali Gandaki where the weather is relatively warm with lots of greenery in and around the village of Ghasa. Your will be arranged a lodge to spend the night.

Day 07 Ghasa to Marpha(2680m)

After your nutritious and tasty breakfast you will walk on a steep uphill trail going through lush green forest towards Lette village. And then you will further continue your trek to Larjung village. As you approach near Marpha village you can see lots of area covered by apple orchards. The apples grown around this village is purely organic and rich in vitamins and proteins. Overnight at lodge.

Day 08 Marpha to kagbeni(2810m)

The 8th day of your trek begins with slow and gradual ascend to reach Jomsom village. After reaching Jomsom village you trek north wards to Kagbeni with a view of the deepest gorge in the world “the kali Gandaki Gorge”. You will continue your walk towards Kagbeni going through Eklebhatti village.

Day 09 kagbeni to Muktinath(3700m)

Before you continue today, your guide will make sure of all the necessary documents to be presented at the tourist check point. After the formalities are completed you will move forward towards Muktinath which would take you for about 5-6 hours to reach there. As you walk along the trails you will see some breathtaking natural view of Mountains and perennial flowing river. Overnight at lodge.

Day 10 Muktinath to Jomsom(2715m)

Muktinath is highly revered place by both Hindus and Buddhists. You will be pretty amazed to know that two different religions and culture co-existing in one common place. Before you leave Muktinath your guide will take you in and around the area of temple. Today will be your final day of the trek. It would take you for about 5-6 hours to reach Jomsom. You will be given a room in a lodge to spend the night.

Day 11 Fly from Jomsom to Pokhara and drive to Kathmandu

As soon as you have your breakfast you will be taking an early flight to Pokhara. Flights in this sector are only operated during morning time because the wind speed is very high during day time which make it difficult for pilot to land and take off. By early in the morning you will be safely landed in Pokhara form where you will be transferred by a private vehicle to Kathmandu. By late afternoon you will be resting in one of deluxe hotel in Kathmandu. You can spend the evening perhaps celebrating and spending the quality time before your final departure.

Day12 Final Departure

After a wonderful trip you might be eager to tell your stories about this trip back home. Our crew member will drop you off to the airport exactly 3hours prior to your departure.
