Makalu Expedition

Makalu is fifth highest peak in the world elevating up to 8463 m i.e. 27.765 ft. Its perfectly pyramid shape structure with four ridges makes it appearance awe-inspiring. The first attempt to climb Mt. Makalu was made by Lionel Terray and Jean Couzy of French expedition led by Jean Franco in May 15, 1955. It is located in Nepal and China frontier in Khumbu region of Eastern Nepal which is 20km away from Mount Everest. Makalu actually is not unaccompanied peak. The secondary peak Chomolonzo (7540 m) rising from the North is connected with a saddle to main peak. The main route of Makalu expedition is South-East face. It is a solitary peak and has evidence of being challenging as five of the first sixteen attempts were only successful. Makalu Expedition can be concluded during spring and autumn season.
