Pisang Peak Climbing

Pisang Peak

Pisang peak looks over Yak Pasture above Pisang Village in a uniform slope to the final summit pyramid, which is an undistinguished snow and ice slope. Above, Ongre Peak can be seen. It can be seen as a curved ridge, with the face above Pisang being the truncated southern end of the mountain. This is made up of steeply tilted rock, the dip slope of which faces the valley and is well seen from this peak, and the great rock slabs further down the valley. In 1955, J. Wellenkamp made the first ascent from Germany. From upper Pisang Village, ascend a path through sparse wood and pastures to a Kharka at 4,380m (Base Camp). From base camp, a faint trail continues on an open hillside following a ridge and climbing to a shoulder on the southwest ridge at High Camp (5400m). Above, a well-defined ridge leads to the final snow slope, which leads quite steeply and difficultly to the summit. The same route can be used for the descent. Alpine Peak is graded using the alpine PD scale.
