A tourist who loves outdoor sports, rock climbing i.e. climbing natural rock formation or manmade walls - can be one of the intrepid sports amidst others. Rock climbing requires physical and mental strength as is of challenging in nature. The climbers use specialized equipments and strength of hands to climb and provide support and balance. There is requisite of knowledge of proper climbing techniques and strategies to complete the routes of rock climbing.
Like other adventurous sport, interest in rock climbing is growing among tourist and local fanatic. There are five sites that are famous for rock climbing in Nepal.
1. Balaju Rock Climbing (Nagarjun Forest)
It is one of the closet climbing sites in North East from Kathmandu city center. This site can be first priority site for the beginners or the one willing to train themselves in climbing. It is a full day adventure usually done in all months except June, July and August. It offers 22 different climbing routes. The tourists are currently not allowed for climbing without Nepali guide.
2. Hattiban Rock Climbing:
Hattiban Rock climbing is a site in North West located 15km away from Kathmandu city center. It is a site offering eight routes for highly professional climbers. It is a full day adventure usually done in all months except June, July and August.
3. Thame Rock Climbing:
It is a site located in eastern part of Nepal in Khumbu region elevating upto 380m.It is nearby Mt Everest and has 17 different routes.
4. Bimal Nagar Rock Climbing:
It is a outdoor site located in Pokhara of Tanahu district which is 140km and five hours drive away from Kathmandu.It id just 60km away from Pokhara city. It is a natural rock climbing with few fixed routes off 55m height.
5. Kakani Rock Climbing:
On the way to Trishuli in the North West direction from Kathmandu lies Kakani Rock Climbing site. It is 29 km from Kathmandu. This site proffers six routes along with picturesque view of Ganesh Himal, Annapurna Dhaulagri, Gauri Shankar and Himchuli. This site looks forward for advance booking from tourist.
