Highlights of EBC Trekking

EBC Trekking in the Khumbu region of Nepal has one of the best trekking trails in the world. It only takes a little while to get out of your hectic life and get fully connected with mother nature. Along the Everest trekking trail you will be mesmerized by the beauty and majesty of numerous Himalayas such as Mt. Lhotse, Mt. Amadablam, Mt. Nuptse, Mt. Pumori, Mt. Everest and may more. The starting point of your journey in Nepal is Kahtmandu city, where you will spend your first and last night before you fly back home. The starting point and the ending point of your trek will be the same i.e. Lukla.

The total duration of the Everest base camp  trek is 16 days and is categorized as difficult. On your entire trek you will be between an altitude of 2610(Phakding) and 5545(Kalapatter). At first, especially those who live in coastal cities and towns, might find it little difficult to adjust to higher altitudes. Don’t worry, during your trek you will be given time to get acclimatize yourself to higher altitudes.

The main focus of this EBC trekking is to give you the closest view of the World’s tallest mountain. Beside that, you will get a chance to observe the cultural, religious and climatic diversity of this region. The typical Sherpa community, their culture and religion and of course their charming hospitality will make you feel you are one of them. The lush green fields around Lukla and Phakding the fluttering prayer flags at Tenhboche Monastery, the array of tourists, diversified flora and fauna will rock you to the core.

 

Introduction

Needing no introduction, Everest Base Camp Trek (Sagarmatha in Nepali) has always been one of the perpetual natural wonders of the world. Thousands of tourists flock every year to Khumbu region to have a once in a lifetime adventure. For those thrill seekers, Everest and its Khumbu region are the right place to satisfy their hunger for adventure. It is one the most famous and visited trekking routes of the world, and was once listed as top ten holiday destination of the world by Lonely Planet. Everest region is also home to world renowned and record breaker climber Appa Sherpa. It was in this region Appa was born and went on to become the Appa Sherpa as we know him today. He holds the record for reaching the summit of Mount Everest more than any other person in the world.

Everest region or widely known as Khumbu is located in northeastern part of Nepal. It is located in Solukhumbhu district, Sagarmatha Zone. Khumbu is one of the three regions of Khambu, the other two being Solu and Pharuk. Famous Namche Bazar is in Khumbu, where trekkers and mountaineers stop by on their way to Everest base camp.  There are also other villages such as Thame, Khumjung, Pangboche, Pheriche and Kunde in this region. You can see a lot of fluttering prayer flags all over the region; literally, you can see it everywhere in Nepal. The diverse culture, people, climate, religion, bio-diversity itself speak up for the one single thing “unity in diversity”. The concentration of such a huge diversity in such a small place is truly awe-inspiring.

Basically,  EBC trekking is 14-15 days of trek with the lowest altitude of 2652 m.a.s.l. (Phakding) to the highest altitude 5545 m.a.s.l. (Kalapater). On your trek you can see the magnificent and breathtaking beauty of Mt. Thamserku 6608, Mt. Amadablam 6812, Mt. Lhotse 8516, Mt. Nuptse 7855, Mt. Pomari 7161, Mt. Makalu 8463 and not to forget Mt. Everest 8848. These mountains are all part of the extensive Himalayan ranges that are stretch across five countries Bhutan, Nepal, India, China and Pakistan, Nepal hosting the majority of the world’s tallest mountain. Your journey begins from Kathmandu, the capital and financial hub of Nepal. The starting point of trek is Lukla, which is just a 35 minutes flight from the capital. On your way to Lukla, you can see the majestic Himalayan ranges from within the comforts of your aircraft, which will certainly fill you with great happiness. Wide ranges of flora and fauna are other major attraction that you should not miss out. You can also take in dense pine and oak forest with rhododendron (Nepal’s national flower) in its full bloom in spring time. If you are lucky enough you can see animals like musk deer, snow leopard, blue sheep, thar and different species of bird such as Himalayan monal, golden eagle, red-headed bullfinch, etc.

The echoes of birds chirping, the sound of trees rustling in the breeze and the jaw-dropping view of the world’s highest mountain and its ranges will make you feel you have just stepped in the kingdom of heaven. Every person on Earth should visit here once in their lifetime. The best time of visiting here should be just after the winter at the time of spring which is normally between April and May. It is believed that mountains can heal; we are pretty sure once you come here you will never be the same as before.

Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu

Our staff member will receive you at the airport and drop you off at your hotel. Once you are in the hotel, you can get yourself refreshed and take a stroll around the city.

Day 02: Sightseeing in Kathmandu

You will have a tour of the city in our tour van. There will be a guide to give you information about the places you will visit. The places you are likely to visit are Monkey temple, Pashupatinath and Kathmandu durbar square. Once your tour gets over, you will be dropped off at the hotel. You will spend your second night in the hotel.

Day 03: Fly to Lukla (2840m) and trek to Phakding (2610m)

Our tour van will pick you from the hotel from the hotel and drop you off at the airport. You will be fully assisted by our staff to catch your flight to Lukla. While you are flying, you can see beautiful Himalayan ranges through the window. After you get down at Lukla, you will take 2-3 hours trek to Phakding. Here you will have all afternoon to explore the village. You will spend your third night in a lodge.

Day 04: Phakding to Namche Bazaar (3440m)

On day four, you will take 5- 6 hours trek from Phakding to Namche Bazaar. Fourth day trek might be little exciting as you will have to cross a few suspension bridges. You will spend your fourth night in a lodge in Namche Bazaar.

Day 05: Acclimatization in Namche Bazaar

At Namche Bazaar, you will have to stay for twenty-four hours. This helps you to acclimatize yourself to higher altitudes. Meanwhile, you will explore the town with our guide. Perhaps, you might visit the bakery shop and tuck in one of your favourite bakery products. You will spend your second night in Namche Bazaar.

Day 06: Namche Bazaar to Tengboche(3867m)

You will make a trek from Namche Bazaar to Tengboche. It will take you 5 to 6 hours. During the trek you will notice trees getting thinner and less dense. After you arrive at Tengboche, you will visit famous Tengboche monastery. You will spend your sixth night in a lodge in Tengoche.

Day 07: Tengboche to Dingboche (4413m)

On day 7, you will go on a 5-6 hours trek. While trekking, you will come across the River Imja, which flows from the east of Dingboche. You can also see the panoramic view of Everest mountain range. You will spend your seventh night, staying in a lodge in Dingboche.

Day 08 : A One-Day Stay at Dingboche

You will spend your day 8 at Dingboche. This stay is to help you acclimatize yourself to higher altitude. The whole day you will explore the village. You will also visit Chhunkung (4730m) and Nangkharsang Gompa (4600m). You will spend your eighth night in a lodge.

Day 09: Dingboche to Labuche(4930m)

On day 9, you will make a 5-6 hours trek. Now you might feel the effect of the drop in air pressure and oxygen. You will spend the night in a lodge in Labuche.

Day 10: Labuche to Kalapather (5545m) to Gorakshep (5140M)

On this day, you will take a 6-7 hours trek. You will start trekking from Labuche and head towards Kalapather. Kalapather is the highest point of trek. So you will be at the highest altitude of your trek. Here you can take photos. From Kalapather, you will head to Gorakshep, situated at an altitude of 5140 M. You will spend the night at the world’s highest lodge.

Day 11: Gorakshep to Everest Base Camp, otherwise known as EBC (5360m) to Labuche

Finally on Day 11, you will make a move from Gorakshep to EBC. This is where all the expedition to Everest begins. In fact you can see some of them. You can take photos as you make a descent to Labuche. You will stay overnight here in Labuche.

Day 12: Labuche to Pangboche upper (3900m)

You will trek for 5-6 hours from Labuche to Pangboche. On your way you can see the magnificent view of Mt. Amadablam. Some of the expedition to Mt. Amadablam starts right here in Pangboche. Here you can also see the oldest monastery of Khumbu region.

Day 13: Pangboche to Khumjung(3790m)

On day 13, you will make a 5-6 hours trek and about 200m descent. On arrival at Khujung, you will see the biggest Sherpa village, Hillary School and hospital. You will spend your night at a lodge in Khumjung.

Day 14: Khumjung to Phakding

You are now towards the end of your trek. From Khumjung you will make a descent of about 1100 m to Phakding. You might feel little dizzy while climbing down. But all your dizziness disappears once you are back in Phakding. You will spend your second night in Phakding.

Day 15: Phakding to Lukla to kathmandu

You will leave the lodge early and catch a flight to Kathmandu. By afternoon you will be back in Kathmandu. There will be a complimentary dinner for you at one of the best restaurants of Kathmandu. You will spend your last night in Nepal.

Day 16 :

Departure from Kathmandu International Airport
