Gokyo Lake and Everest Panorama Trek is strenuous and graded as difficult one because of the extended length of time spent in high altitudes. You should be physically fit and at least have experience of multi day walking. You should never underestimate the altitudes.
Gokyo lake trek is available any time of the year but the best season to be there is in mid September to mid December and in April and May, where the climate is dry with clear sky and you can encounter the nature in its full glory.

You will be trekking through Sagarmatha National Park, listed in UNESCO whcich covers the area of 1148 square km. It is named after the Nepali name of Everest “Sagarmatha”.
Gokyo lakes are the world’s highest fresh water lake system located at an altitude of 4700-5000 above sea level consisting of six main lakes among which Thonak lake is the largest one. Your trip to Everest is never done unless you have been to Gokyo lakes; such is the importance and beauty that you just can’t resist from visiting. In religious terms it has its own great value and is considered sacred by Hindus and Buddhist alike. Hindus believe it as a place of residence of Nag Devata (snake God).Temples of some of Hindu deities Lord Vishnu and Shiva is situated at the western corner of the Lake. During the months of August where janai purnima festival usually occur; hundreds of Hindus visit there and take a holy bath.
Gokyo is among the most visited tourist destinations that are en route to Everest base camp. Just a two days uphill trek from Namche Bazar you can reach a beautiful and quite Gokyo village sitting right in the lap of gigantic Himalayas. These lakes are part of extended EBC(Everest Base Camp) trekking trail with approximately 4 days more than the normal base camp route. However number of days can be shortened as per the customers’ request
Gokyo lakes are situated in Khumjung VDC(village development committee). Khumjung VDC is a part of Solukhumbu district in Sagarmatha Zone. Gokyo cho also known as Dudh Pokhari is one the main lakes with an area of 106 acres, on the eastern shore of the lake lies small, beautiful and calm Gokyo village. Thonak cho the largest of all lakes is 160.8 acres in area with others Gyazumpa cho, Tanjung cho and Ngojumba cho having an area of 72, 41.9 and 35.6 acres respectively which are source of Dudh koshi river. Various researches have been carried out throughout these lakes.
Researchers believe that these lakes are much deeper than previously assumed. Thonak cho is the deepest of them all with an estimated depth of 62.4m. Researcher believes all these lakes are connected through underground seepage water. The stability of Gokyo lakes are very fragile as it is situated in unstable zone where Ngozumpa glacier can burst out any moment without any warning jeopardizing the very existence of the lakes.
Gokyo lakes and Everest Panorama trekking is graded as strenuous one. Trekkers should be able to walk on high altitude and rough terrain for about 5-6 hours per day which is quite exhausting. Like all other treks this journey also start at Kathmandu with a short flight to Lukla. Since roads are not accessible to these parts of Nepal the only option remaining is to fly there. After you get there your trek begins with 2-3 hours trek to Phakding. Your trek then continues all the way up to Gokyo lake via Namche bazaar, MongDanda, Dole and Machhermo and come back the same route.
On your journey you will be accompanied by illustrious Himalayas standing tall above all, through lush and green valleys in between Sherpa villages. The mesmerizing hospitality of the mountain lodges, green fields around Lukla and Phakding and the famous Tengboche Monsatery will surely blow your mind. The concentration of tourists from around the world in a single place resembles something outstanding which is something that will be engraved deep within your memory for a long time.
