The Langtang Tamang Heritage trail starts with a one day city tour of Kathmandu valley visiting some of the historic and iconic places of kathmandu such as Pashupatinath, Swayambhu and Kathmandu durbar square which are all enlisted in UNESCO world heritage lists. After your wonderful city tour you will then head straight to Syabrubesi from where your trek begins. During your trek you will come face toface with some of Tamangs extraordinary cuture and their practice. You willl be also acquainted with mother nature as you trek throught the trails, the sight of Jugal and Ganesh himal being your constant companion.
If you want to know the history of one of Nepal highly populated indigenous ethnic people “The Tamangs” then this would be the perfect opportunity for you to know and learn their history, culture and language. The Tamangs or also known as Murmi are the indigenous Himalayan people of Nepal. Their history dates back way before the unification of Nepal took place. After the unification process led by King Prithvi Narayan Shah they were forced to be displaced to Sikkim and Darjeeling and some other parts of West Bengal India which was then ruled by East India Company under the direct command of Queen Elizabeth I.
In context of present situation the biggest concentration of tamang population can be found in central development region of Nepal, Sindhupalchowk and Kavrepalanchowk districts being the most populated of all. Not only are they rich historically, culturally they are very diverse. They have a unique piece of culture and religion and are both inclined towards Hindu and Buddhists norms and their practice. They follow a unique and distinctive religion called Bon which is, by many considered as one of the branches of Buddhism. Shamanic practice is very commonly performed in this particular religion. Many people believe that the Shamans posses the power to connect with both good and evil spirits and are capable of curing many diseases where even modern medical science have failed. Many western intellectuals over the period of time have come and studied these idiosyncratic shamanic rituals.

The most famous culture of Tamangs would be Tamang selo, a dance performed playing the musical instrument called damphoo during the festival of Lhosar. The vibrant people with coloful traditional dresses and ornaments are some of the integreal parts of their culture. There are countless monasteries all through the trails which are all inclined to Tibetan Buddhists culture. The paintings and portraits that you will find in the monasteries of Tamang heritage are all influenced by the ancient Tibetan artifacts. The panoramic view of Jugal and Ganesh himal and deep blue lakes such as Parvati kunda, Dudh Kunda and Bhairav Kunda will definitely give you the immense pleasure that you can only think of.
Ganesh Himal. A culturally rich region steeped in Tibetan tradition, the local Tamang people are some of the warmest and most welcoming people in Nepal. Within easy access of Kathmandu we ascend the road north towards the Tibetan borderlands and enjoy a relatively gentle circuit trek through picturesque villages, terraced fields, and peaceful valleys where only the most discerning trekkers go. Also homestays are available at the end of the trek.
Tamang heritage trekking trial is located at north of Kathmandu. It is an interesting trek through Tamang villages and settlements. They are descendants from Tibet and have hardly seen any tourists. Their culture is virtually untouched.
In the month of March and April Rhododendron forests have many different species of trees, birds and butterflies. Tamang Heritage trail trekking is special for those trekkers, who would like to see traditional and untouched heritage, custom and lifestyle of indigenous Tamang people.
